Yesterday I spent the day at Chaweng Beach which is the big tourist beach and area on Ko Samui.  I relaxed in a lounge chair on the beach for a few hours occassionally getting up to refresh myself in the clear, warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand.

I then just into a pickup taxi (a pickup truck where the bed is converted to hold passengers) for a cheap ride back to the hotel.  Once at the hotel I decided to hang out at the pool for awhile.  I ended up running into a group of Americans and spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool.  It was nice to hang out with people that I could talk to, but at the sametime they were sort of the foreign travelers that I don't want to be associated with.  They were sort of arrogant and cocky.  They thought they were better than the locals and that they could do whatever they want because they have money.  That is not the kind of person I want to be or even hang around with.  I see myself as traveling to see and learn about the world, not to judge it and conquer it.  I feel bad for the locals when they have to serve this kind of traveler.  Half the time they don't have enough English skills to know what is going on.  It is just sad.  Anyways, I ate pork fried rice for dinner and it was very good.  I am only showing you the picture because I like the presentation of the plate.

Well of course I got sunburnt at the beach.  I though I was being very careful.  I was trying not to get too much sun, but apparently that plan didn't work to well.  Like an idiot I also went swimming with my money in my pocket.  I had the money in the pocket of my boardshorts and I kept telling myself that I will take the money out when I find a spot to relax at.  Well needless to say Murphy's Law went into action and next thing you know I am drying my money on my shirt.  Oh well, I was fine in the end.  I had a very realxing day and today I am just going to relax some more and hopefully avoid the sun as I have about another week of the beaches.  Tomorrow morning I leave for Phuket which is an island off the west coast of southern Thailand.  It is about a 6 hour journey by 2 ferries and a bus.
