The last few days we have been celebrating Deepavali, the Festival of Lights.  The Festival of Lights or Deepavali is about celebrating the victory of good over evil.  Technically Deepavali is only one day, November 5th, but it is celebrated for about a week.  On Deepavali Eve my friend's immediate family came over and they said some prayers for their ancestors and then we feasted.  The next morning we got up early and went to the local temple.

At the temple they lined up to give an offering to the main Hindu god.  They then went around and prayed to all the other various Hindu gods.  Then at my friend's father's personal god, which he prays to daily, we gave an offering and we were blessed by the priest.  Here is the priest giving the offering to the personal god.

After the temple we went back to their house and feasted all day long.  Then in the evening we had dinner at my friend's sister's house.  Here is my friend and his immediate family.

My friend, his wife, his daughter, and I also stopped by a few of his friend's houses in the evening to continue the celebrations.  For the rest of the week people will go around to various family and friend's houses to celebrate.  Like today for example we went to an open house held by my friend's sister's friend.  There was more food and lots of people celebrating Deepavali.  Well only 4 days until I am back home and getting ready to celebrate our own holidays.
