After being shown how to cook a couple of dishes the last few nights I was put to the test last night.  Last night I was told I would cook Phad See-Ew all by myself.  So I stepped into the main kitchen in the back restaurant and cooked.

Of course they were there next to me offering me some guidance along the way, but I did all the cooking and some of the prep work.  When I was done this is what I made.

My first ever Phad See-Ew and it was "aroi mak mak" which means too delicious.  It was actually not that hard to make.  Just like Chili & Rice, which I brought back from Hawaii, this will be one of those dishes I will make frequently at home.  For dessert I had a Pandan Roll which I bought earlier from 7/11.

Pandan is a popular dessert flavor in Southeast Asia that comes from a local plant.  The chlorophyll (the liquid inside a plant that gives it it's green color and which absorbs light for photosynthesis) is what gives the cake a green color.  At first I didn't like pandan flavor, but after a few bites I started liking it more and more.  Now I really like it.  Sometimes pandan is used in cooking non-dessert dishes too.  The next morning I was invited to sit with the staff when I ate breakfast.  I also tryed some local breakfast of rice porridge (rice and water mixed to make like a thick soup) with chicken.  I am really going to miss this place and my friends when I leave in a week.  If I had to live abroad anywhere this would definitely be the place.  I was also able to go kayaking this morning for the first time since hurting my toe.  I will definitely be back here again one day.  Hopefully it will be one day soon.
