So I am in Phuket, Thailand.  Specifically I am in the crazy/touristy district of Patong near the center of it all Bangla Road.  I don't know what I was thinking when I came here, but it was obviously not very smart.  I don't know why anyone would want to come here.  Actually I do.  For the nightlife.  Here is a daytime picture.

I will post a night picture later.  The nightlife here is definitely not for the squimish.  Being that I am not a party animal why would I come here?  Well I thought there would be more things to do during the day and the beaches would be really nice.  The main beach here is nothing special.

So there is really not much to do, but drink and shop.  The shopping is not even that good here as the prices are raised because it is a tourist area and they have all the same things you can find everywhere else in southeast Asia.  I am pretty disappointed with this place, but then again I was expecting much just a little better than this.  There are some really cool islands nearby, but the tours are very expensive here.  I will wait until I get to Krabi where the tours will be cheaper and they also have some really cool island tours too.  In light of all this I might leave here early and go to Krabi for an extra day or two.  I would lose out on the money I paid for my room here in Phuket, but it is only about $13 a day.  So no big deal and besides if I am not enjoying myself then what is the point.  Normally I would not book for so many days and I would not book ahead, but I have so much stuff to carry around that it is not worth it to me to try and find a hotel on arrival.  I would rather book ahead and just take what I get from the internet.  It has worked well so far.  Even this hotel which is the worst of them all is not that bad.  It works good enough.  Well we will see where I end up tomorrow.  I almost forgot.  The worst thing about this place (and maybe Thailand in general) is that everyone is out to make money off of you.  They all constantly bug you to look at their shop, take their tour, or take their taxi, etc.  I know you are thinking well what do you expect in a tourist town.  Well it gets very annoying when you walk 100 feet and get asked the same questions like 10-15 times.  I just don't find big tourist areas in Thailand to be that enjoyable.  Luckily my next stop is outside the tourist area so it will be relaxing and I have seen some wonderful looking places in Thailand while on the train or bus.  I think that if you come to Thailand the best thing you can do is avoid the megatourist spots and go to smaller tourist spots.  Like if you want the beach then go to Khao Lak or other parts of Phuket.  Just avoid the central spots unless you like all the stuff I was complaining about.
