Goodbye, But Not For Long
September 17, 2010
Today was my last day here in Krabi. After enjoying another delicious breakfast I took out of the free kayaks the resort has to offer. I kayaked south down to a private little beach. I walked around the beach looking at shells, sea snails, crabs, and other local wildlife. It was a nice day. Warm and not too sunny. I really enjoyed the kayaking as it was refreshing to get splashed occassionally by the warm waters. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures to show you as I didn't want to risk getting my camera wet. So after being out for a few hours I went back to the hotel and decided to have a light lunch. Well upon arrival at the restaurant I was asked what I wanted to drink and they said they had special food for me. I was given 2 bowls of noodles, a bowl of yellow fish curry, a bowl of chicken and coagulated blood soup, and a bunch of garnishes for the soups.

I was told I take the curry or chicken and blood and pour it on top of the noodles. Then you add the garnishes on top. Here is the chicken, blood, and noodle soup. You can see a piece of coagulated blood right on top in the middle.

I have seen coagulated blood on tv, but I never thought I would be eating it or furthermore enjoying it. Here is the yellow fish curry noodle soup.

Both meals were simply delicious. These are probably two of the most local foods I have eaten. I really liked the first soup (chicken and blood). For dessert I was given a waffle with fresh made ice cream and warm fruits.

Again it was delicious. I have had some truly amazing meals here at this hotel and get this. This was another free meal in honor of the owner birthday (which now I am told is today). It is possible that they just wanted to introduce me to some real local food that was not on the menu. Either way I can't thank them enough. I am sad that I must leave tomorrow, but I will be back. In fact the current plan in my head is to go south to Malaysia and Indonesia then come back up north through Malaysia and Thailand to get to China before heading home. If this plan sticks then I will definitely stop here in Krabi and stay at this hotel again. I just love it here and it is very affordable. I look forward to the day where I get to see my friends here again, but onwards to Malaysia to visit some other friends who I also look forward to seeing. I will be in Penang in the early evening toward and in the company of friends I have not seen in about 10 years. So even though I am sad to leave here I look forward to tomorrow.
