Go Aztecs!!!

March 26, 2011
Hey all.  I am doing great here in Singapore.  I just watched the SDSU Aztec game yesterday morning.  What a tough loss.  But I am so proud of what they have been able to accomplish.  I can only imagine how exciting it must have been in San Diego to watch them.  I am very excited to see what the future holds for the program as it has been getting better and better each year.  So anyways, GREAT JOB AZTECS!!!  Today I will be changing rooms after church.  We will be moving across the hallway to a nicer room.  I will post some pictures of the room after we get it all set up.  I am so glad we stayed in the same apartment.  It is a really great location and my housemates are very nice (and all friends of Ronna's).  Last night we went to a farewell party for one of our old housemates.  She moved back to the Philippines today.  This seems to be very common here.  SIngapore is a very international city as you have lots of foreign workers coming and going all the time.  It kind of reminds me of Hawaii.  When I lived in Hawaii I noticed that people were constantly coming and going off the island.  In fact I myself only lasted a year, but a what a wonderful year it was.  So it was sad to see her go, but that is life around here.  You never know how long someone will be around.  Other than that I am just waiting for my work visa.  It should be about another 3 weeks or so until I find out anything.  So I am just living normal life.  I have seen tons of movies lately (I see 2 movies a week).  I see 1 by myself during the week and one with Ronna on Friday night (that is our date night).  I recently saw World Invasion: Battle LA (very good action movie, but not going to win any awards), Diary of a Wimpy Kid (if you liked the first one you will like this one - it was good, but a bit familiar), and Suckerpunch (this was a very unique movie - I thought it was trying to hard to be cool and therefore was not that good, it was okay).  The most interesting thing we did all week was go see a show on Sentosa Island.  One of our housemates who works at Resort World on Sentosa gave us some free tickets to see Voyage De La Vie.  Sentosa is a small island south of Singapore.  It belongs to Singapore and is like a couple of hundred feet away from Singapore.  So you can drive across the bridge, take a bus or taxi, ride the monorail, or take the cable cars to get to Sentosa.  Sentosa is basically one big tourist trap.  It is filled with all kinds of stuff for tourist to do.  Sentosa has a resort, golf course, casino, Universal Studios, lots of shops, parks, beaches, and plenty of other attractions for tourists.  So we went to see Voyage De La vie last night.  The show is a mixture of music, dancing, contortioning, magic, gymnastic, and a bunch of other types of entertainment.  Supposedly it has a story to tie it all together, but I couldn't follow it.  It was an interesting show, but a bit pricey.  They tickets we got were around $100SGD.  But to be fair everything in Singapore and especially Sentosa is expensive.  So was the show good?  Yes.  Is it worth paying for?  Not really unless you like those kinds of shows and you have the money to pay for it.  That being said I am not saying I didn't enjoy it.  I enjoyed it very much I just don't think it was worth the price, but for free it was great.  Sorry, but I wasn't able to take pictures as they didn't allow it at the show.  I would have taken some pictures of Sentosa at least, but in the rush to get ready I forgot my camera.  I am very excited as I get my Nintendo 3DS in 2 weeks when my first group of visitors comes to visit.  During there visit we will be going to Tioman Island, Malaysia for a long weekend.  Tioman is a beautiful tropical island with nice beaches.  Then in about 5 weeks from now our second group of visitors will be arriving.  During that visit we will be taking a long weekend to Krabi, Thailand (the place I stayed at for 5 weeks during my backpacking adventures).  So I am excited to see the visitors and to take the long weekends.  So stay tuned as I will definitely have pictures and things to blog about when the visitors come.  So that was basically my week.  Blog to you later.

Tsunami

March 12, 2011
Don't worry everyone.  We are okay here in Singapore.  We did not feel the earthquake and we did not get any tsunami waves here.  We are pretty far from Japan and we have lots of land around us to shield us.  So no need to worry.

Just to clarify things I did not get my work visa yet just my employment pass which is the first step in getting a work visa.  You have to get a employment pass before you can apply for a work visa.  So now I can apply for my work visa and it should take around a mont...

Employment Pass Update

March 10, 2011
I just got approved for my employment pass.  I needed to get this before I could apply for my 1 year work visa.  So next week I should get the pass in the mail and then I can continue working on my visa.  I am just happy I passed the first step and I am one step closer to getting my visa.  Other than that it has been a normal week.  I saw a few movies.  The Adjustment Bureau is very good, I Am Number Four is okay, and Red Riding Hood is kind of boring.  I am hoping to see Rango and Gnomeo And...

Job and Work Visa Update

March 3, 2011

No news on the job applications, but it has only been a week.  I don't expect to hear anything for about a month as the job openings don't close until the end of the month.  As far as the work visa goes I submitted some supporting documents, but haven't heard anything since.  I should be getting my employmeny pass any time now.  As soon as I get that I can apply for the actual visa.  Well that is it for now.  I haven't done much this week as we are in the middle of searching for a new apartme...

Work Visa and Job

February 25, 2011
I have just begun the process to get a one year work visa.  I have also just applied for 3 jobs at the zoo.  One is a behind the scenes guide for private groups, another is for a junior animal management officer (which sounds a lot like a keeper, but somehow it is different), and finally for a sound tech assistant at one of the shows.  Wish me luck and I will keep you updated on all of this.  I should know about everything within the month.

Daily Life

February 24, 2011
I didn't really do anything blog-worthy last weekend.  I saw a movie on Friday night (Friday night is movie night), went shopping on Saturday (went to like 11 malls), and went to church and relaxed all day on Sunday.  Although my girlfriend, Ronna, did make adobo and rice on Sunday.  It was really good.  Adobo is a Filipino dish that is basically meat in a mixture of soy sauce and vingear.  Other than that it was a typical weekend.  Since not too exciting occurred last weekend I decided I wou...

A Day of Animals

February 17, 2011
The weather has been getting hotter lately, but it has still rained a few days in the early evening.  It has been a typical week.  Although I have started to settle in more.  I finally moved into my temporary rented room and I will move into my permanent room on Saturday.  Well permanent until I change apartments in April.  It feels nice to have place to stay other than a hotel.  I have already started cooking my own meals and even went grocery shopping the other day.  I have also been doing ...

Pics Of Singapore

February 11, 2011
So I am back in Singapore after my short trip to the Philippines.  The weather has been hotter and no rain, but I still haven't done much here worthy of blogging.  I am going to the night safari tonight, but I don't know if I will be able to get any good pictures being nighttime and all.  But I will try.  Tomorrow I will be going to the bird park.  So hopefully I will have some good stuff to show you in the next few days.  Anyways, I just wanted to show you a few pictures of Singapore.  This ...

My Short Trip To The Philippines

February 11, 2011

From Feb 3rd to the 7th I was on a short vacation from my vacation.  I went to the Philippines and then back to Singapore, which is where I am currently.  Anyways, I went to the province of Bohol in the Philippines.  I flew into Tagbilaran City via Manila and then went to Alona Beach on the island of Panglao.  Here is the exit from the airport to Tagbilaran City.

I stayed at Dumaluan Beach Resort on Alona Beach.

The first day the water felt cold, but then the rest of the days the water was nice...
