Hey all it has been raining everyday here lately. It cycles between a light rain and heavy rain pretty much all day long. I guess this is why they call it the rainy season. So because of the rain I haven't been able to do much or take any pictures. At the end of my last trip I ruined my new camera by getting steam in it from the hot springs in Thailand so I am being extra careful this time around. So sadly I don't have much to report here in this blog. I was hoping to go to the bird park, night safari, and get a bunch of pictures from around the town, but that will have to wait until the rain goes away. Although it has been raining I have still been enjoying myself. I have been taking the bus and subway everywhere and I am really starting to learn the city. Life here is so much different than in the US, but at the same time I see a lot of similarities. In the past week I have seen a few movies, walked around a bunch of different malls, and eaten a lot of good local food. I leave for a short trip to the Philippines in two days to lay around on the beach and then back here to Singapore. I should have plenty to blog about when I get back here. Plus hopefully the rain will go away during that time so I can show you more of Singapore. So stay tuned and I promise to blog more as soon as the weather starts to cooperate.

So after returning to Singapore from Thaipusam I have been a bit sick with a cold so I had been taking it easy. I have walked around the city a little bit more, but I haven't done much else. I plan to go to the night safari and the bird park soon. I am currently planning to go to the Philippines next. I will be going around Feburary 3rd. Well that is it for now. Once I feel better and do more stuff I will blog again. I only plan on blogging once to twice a week just so you know. Talk ...

So after a long weekend in Singapore I made my way to Penang by train. It was a long 14 hour ride, but it was comfortable enough. Luckily I learned from last time that the train can be cold from the constant AC so I was prepared with a flannel shirt. My friend's dad picked me and we had a quick dinner then it was off to bed because we would have an early start the next day. Tomorrow would be the beginning of the Thaipusam festival. Thaipusam is a festival were people give offerings to the...

Hey all sorry for the delay. It has been a busy first 2 weeks, I didn't have reliable internet until now, and I am a bit sick with a cold. The next 3 blogs will get you up to date with what I have been doing. This first blog will cover my first few days in Singapore. Singapore is a small island nation just south of Malaysia. The people here Chinese, Indian, or Malaysian (just like Malaysian). In fact Singapore used to be part of Malaysia, but it separated itself around the 1960's I beli...

1 flight down and 2 to go (and a long drive home from LA). I am currently sitting in McDonald's at Kuala Lumpur's International Airport. I am getting more and more excited to be going home. It has been exactly 3 months to the date that I have been gone and it went by like nothing. I look forward to seeing you all soon. And of course there is still a little adventure left as I am concerned about my baggage. I left with 2 bags and I am returning with 3 bags. An extar bag is not the probl...

Tomorrow is the day. The day I leave for home. The day I return home. Basically the longest day ever. I will be in transit for about 24 hours and yet somehow I will arrive the same day I leave (November 10th). I leave my friend's house about 6:30am to go to the airport. From there I get my 1st flight to Kuala Lumpur and then I wait for a few hours. Next I catch my 2nd flight to China and wait a few hours again. Then I get a 3rd flight to LA and land about 6pm. Finally I must go throu...

The past few days I haven't done much other than help my friend's dad prepare for his trip to the US with me. We have done some shopping and gotten all the things he needs to take with him. We have also been visiting with people saying our goodbyes. Only 2 more days until I am home. Each day I am getting more and more excited. At the same time I am not ready to leave. I am especially not ready to go back to reality, but I guess it has to happen sometime. See you all soon....

The last few days we have been celebrating Deepavali, the Festival of Lights. The Festival of Lights or Deepavali is about celebrating the victory of good over evil. Technically Deepavali is only one day, November 5th, but it is celebrated for about a week. On Deepavali Eve my friend's immediate family came over and they said some prayers for their ancestors and then we feasted. The next morning we got up early and went to the local temple.

At the temple they lined up to give an offering t...

I have been back in Penang, Malaysia for a few days now. I am back with my friends. Nothing new or special has been going on over here other than preparing for Deepavali (a Hindu holiday - kind of like their version of Christmas). Tomorrow is Deepavali so they are having a Deepavali Eve dinner and prayers with the immediate family. Yesterday we went to a similar party with my friend's mom's family. Hopefully my camera will allow me to get some photos to show you of the celebrations in th...
