The First Few Days

Hey all sorry for the delay. It has been a busy first 2 weeks, I didn't have reliable internet until now, and I am a bit sick with a cold. The next 3 blogs will get you up to date with what I have been doing. This first blog will cover my first few days in Singapore. Singapore is a small island nation just south of Malaysia. The people here Chinese, Indian, or Malaysian (just like Malaysian). In fact Singapore used to be part of Malaysia, but it separated itself around the 1960's I believe. Singapore is very clean, kind of expensive, and very nice. It is definitely an international city and very friendly to Westerners. In fact English is the official language here. So anyways on my first few days here I spent my time walking circles around the city. I have been taking the MRT (trolley), local bus, and taxis to explore the city. I have been to Chinatown, Little India, and about a billion malls. Just about every building in Singapore is a mall. It is absolutely rediculous how many malls there are here.
One of the days I went to the Singapore zoo. I had been there once before 10 years ago and it is one of my favorite zoos in the world.

The zoo, a;omg with the whole city, has a very tropical feel to it. The city is basically a city within a rain forest and the zoo basically feels like you are walking through a rain forest too. They have all the basic zoo animals and many local ones too. The exhibits and enclosures are all world class. It truly is one of the nicest zoos anywhere.

This is the opening walkway as you enter the zoo. It is a wooden bridge that cuts through a tropical rain forest. On both sides you find crocodiles and monkeys all around. I really enjoyed my day at the zoo.
The weather has been unbelieveable great. When I was here 10 years ago I came during the same time of year and it was very hot and humid. I remember stepping out of the airport and being totally drenched in sweat within 30 seconds. It must have looked like I just went swimming. This time the weather has been very mild with almost no humidity. In fact last night I even wore pants.
Of course I have been eating all kinds of great food, but nothing really new. I have had sweet and sour beef, thai basil chicken, Korean BBQ beef, and Indian bread (like I ate on my last trip) just to name a few.
Well this was basically my first few days in Singapore.
