There was quite some excitement going on around here today, but I'll get to that in a moment.  I woke up today feeling much better.  I wasn't completely hungry, but I knew I needed to eat something.  So I forced myself to eat some breakfast.  Everybody was very glad to see me up and eating.  In the early afternoon I decided to lay by the pool and read my book.  As I am reading out of the corner of my eyes I see one of the cooks walking from the front of the hotel to the back where the restaurant is located.  All of a sudden I hear a loud scream and as I look up I see the cook jumping back a couple of feet.  She is clearly in a state of fear.  She is yelling something in Thai to the lady inside.  Then she turns to me and starts saying something very familiar.  I am already making my way towards her when I figure out what she is saying to me.  She is saying "snake."  So I repeat it back to her and she nods her head yes.  In the 30 seconds in took me to get there the snake disappeared.  I looked around, but saw nothing.  The cook takes another look and then jumps back again.  She looks to me again and says "snake" while pointing down.  So I follow her finger, but I don't see anything.  But she keeps insisting.  So I keep looking.  Then finally I see something that looks a little off.  It is a brownish spot, but it is very flat.  It almost looks like a reptilian slug.  As I take a closer look I see a leg and then an eye.  After poking it with a stick I realize that it is just a frog.

So I move the plank it was hiding (actually it looked like it was stuck) under and I grabbed the frog.  I showed the cook, but she kept saying "snake."  I tried to tell her that it is a frog not a snake, but she is not having it she kepts saying "snake" and pointing to the area where I got the frog.  So I move the frog away from the restaurant and put it in the garden.  I clean up and go back to reading.  Then a few minutes later I hear the cook yelling "snake, snake."  So I come running over and sure enough there was a snake after all.

The ladies wanted me to grab the snake and get rid of it, but I didn't know if it was poisonous or not.  So I tried to poke the snake from behind to get it to come out and maybe I could grab it by it's tail, but I made the snake go back under the floor instead.  After awhile I gave up which didn't make the ladies to happy, but what could we do?  Later on I took a picture of the snake and when I went to show the cook she almost jumped out of her seat.  She must have thought I had the snake because I was just in the area of the snake.  The other lady and myself couldn't help, but laugh hysterically.  For the rest of the day the snake was the big topic around here.  I would notice that everytime one of the ladies would walk by the area of the snake they would look down to see if it was there and they would walk a little faster than normal.  One of the ladies even offered to cook the snake for me if I caught it (she was joking).  There is always some fun to be had around here at KTBR.
