The Proposal

Last night I arrived back in Singapore. Ronna met me at the airport even though I didn't arrive until 12:45am in the morning. We smiled, hugged, and kissed each other when we finally saw each other. I was very happy to be back with her. I had her engagement ring in my pocket and I pulled her aside in the airport to a quieter spot and we just talked for a few minutes. I was stalling to find the right moment to propose to her. I was planning on torturing her for a week or so since she knew I had the rings, but I couldn't think of a better and more meaningful place to propose to her. We already have history at the airport since this is where we first met in person on January 14, which is why we want to marry on January 14th. The date has a lot of meaning to us. So I decided I wanted to propose to her at the airport and I also wanted to do it right away because I want everything to be as official as possible. Yes we were already engaged, but only by Filipino standards. So I wanted us to be officially engaged by both Filipino and US standards and I love her so much I didn't want to wait another day. So as we were talking she told me how much she missed and loved me and as I replied to sentiment to her I continued on with why I love her so much and why I want to marry her. I then told her that I want to spend eternity with her and not just until I die. In order to live for eternity I need to completely accept God and so I also told her that I wanted to get baptized to announce to God that I accept him and that I want eternal life which only He can offer so I can spend eternity with all my loved ones especially Ronna. (I am hoping her Christian pastor uncle will baptize me when we go back to the Philippines in September.) So after saying that I got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and asked her to marry me. I could see she was fighting back tears of joy and she said yes. I put the ring on her finger (which in the Philippines is on the right hand not the left like the US) and we hugged and kissed. So we are now officially engaged by both Filipino and US customs/standards. I will get a picture of her ring and post it here on the blog in the next few days. Tomorrow we are going to have brunch at the Marriot Hotel (which is shaped like a pagoda and holds a lot of memories for me from my previous trip to Singapore 11 years ago) thanks to my stepdad Vince and my mom. It will be a celebratory brunch to celebrate our 6 month anniversary (which was last week), our engagement, and my homecoming.
