What's To Eat?

Lately I have been eating one delicious meal after another. There is definitely no shortage of good food here. While waiting for breakfast I watched the mom cat play with her 2-month old kitten.

Everyone here calls the cats "Meow." Somehow I don't think that is Thai for cat, but that seems to be the what they call them. Every morning I watch these two play and interact with each other. They are so cute. Today I had my other usual breakfast, the "American" breakfast.

It starts with a bowl of corn flakes, juice, coffee, and water. Then you get eggs any style you want, your choice of meat (I get bacon), toast with butter and jelly, a plate of fresh fruit, and your choice of dessert (I get a muffin). It is a very filling breakfast which is why I only get it once or twice a week. After breakfast I noticed the mom cat going down to the beach. I see her go there often, but I never knew what she was doing. So I took this opportunity to see what she is doing. When I got there I saw here digging in the sand. I thought she was trying to get a crab to eat until I saw here squat over the hole and then fill the hole back up with sand.

That is when I figured it out. The beach was a huge litter box for her. She after following the cat I went for my morning kayak. For lunch I went to the restaurant out front. I was asked what I wanted to eat and I said chicken fried rice. The cook then said how about beef noodle soup. I learned long ago not to argue with the cook so I said okay.

I don't know why she asked what I wanted to begin with. She should have just asked if I wanted beef noodle soup. Chalk it up to being lost in translation I guess. Plus I think the soup was already prepared so this way she didn't have to cook anything. I don't mind because everything that she brings me is delicious. As you can see there was some big chunks of beef in the soup today. Here are what the noodles look like.

In the afternoon I went for another kayak ride. This time I went north to the pier. The waters got a bit rough over there and it was a lot dirtier. So I decided to turn back not wanting to get soaked in dirty sea water. When I went to dinner I expected to see my usual cook smile at me and ask what I want, but she was not there. Another lady asked if I wanted to eat. I ordered chicken fried rice. It was good, but not as good as the other cook makes it. Then my usual cook showed up while I was eating. It turns out she was cooking in the back restaurant. Poor lady has to run back and forth all day long between the 2 kitchens while the other cook is on vacation. Luckily it is low season so there are not too many other guests here. After dinner I sat and watched the geckos hunt for dinner. There are geckos everywhere. Even in my room. I will be watching TV and see a small shadow run across the wall. It reminds me a lot of Maui. Anyways, the geckos are very interesting to watch. They come out when it gets dark and they like to wait near lights. The lights then attract bugs from the dark and dinner is served. It is also interesting to see the geckos fight with each other. There might be 4 or 5 geckos at one light source. So the biggest gecko will run around and try to scare off the smaller geckos. The smaller geckos move away as little as possible and wag their tail to appease the bigger gecko. Then when the bigger gecko moves away the smaller geckos move back to their original spot. The only bad thing about geckos being everywhere is they poop wherever they want. The other day I swear a gecko poop fell and hit me on the side of the head. I just felt something small hit me. When I turned to look I saw a small dark object about the size and color of a gecko poop falling next to me. Oh well better than in my food I guess.
